How to Handle Compliments

Question: I would like to ask you if you have some witty or clever way to handle compliments. When someone gives me a compliment, I usually try to deflect the compliment. I say things like "Oh no. Not really." And I get embarrassed. And then I usually try to give a return compliment. It all becomes an awkward situation. I appreciate the compliment but I wish people wouldn't give me any. April Borovy, Decatur, Alabama.

Answer: April, you answered your own question. You said you appreciate the compliment. I remember doing just as you are doing. I finally learned the best response to a compliment is simply to say "Thank You." That's all. You do not need to give a return compliment. You do not need to be witty or clever. Just sincerely say "Thank You."

How Easy It Is

Question: It took me a long time to figure out how to ask you a question. I know you explained it early on when you first started the blog but you need to explain it again. Please tell everyone how easy it is to ask you a question. Sue Bellard, Miami, Florida.

Answer: There is no question, Sue. To ask me a question, go to any answer and click on comment below it. Ask your question as though it were a comment. Your question will appear as a new question and answer, not as a comment. That's all there is to it. It is easy.
